CONSTRUCTION PROJECT ENGINEER

Position Summary
The Project Engineer will work in a team environment to support the Project Manager and General Construction Division to deliver successful projects by planning, organizing and controlling all elements of the project. This may include duties during pre- construction, construction and post-construction phases. This position will report to the
General Construction Division.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Pre-Construction
    Assist Project Manager with prospecting, new bid support, take-off, estimating, job cost forecasting, and finalizing all documentation. 
  • Assist with subcontractor procurement and management, package development, material and equipment procurement, submittal review, quantity takeoffs, document controls, material purchases, deliveries and inventory, and project controls.

Construction Management
Assist Project Manager: 

  • With financial and budgeting tasks including scoping change directive pricing, preparing billings, reviewing subcontractor/vendor pricing and invoicing. 
  • In writing proposals, letters, memos, subcontracts, change orders and other documents related to project execution. 
  • In managing internal department relationships (i.e. accounting, purchasing, engineering, construction, etc.) and managing necessary documentation. 
  • To oversee and/or process daily administrative items (i.e., Document Control, RFIs, Dailies, POs, MOPs, submittals, procurement logs, etc.). 
  • To coordinate project personnel activities to ensure the project progresses on schedule and on budget. Plan the work, track labor, track material and deliveries, project cost at completion. o By escalating potential problems and recommending solutions to ensure complete resolution. 
  • Prepare and disseminate all required documentation records such as materials and equipment submittals, status reports, sketches of work already completed, material requirement calculations, etc. 
  • Interpret design/drawings.
  • Research resolutions to drawing interpretation problems, conflicts, interferences, and errors, initiate RFI’s and follow through to resolution. 
  • Implement projects controls for distribution and record keeping of correspondence, technical records, and other project documents.
  • Review all incoming correspondence and initiate action on it, record minutes of the weekly and monthly project site meeting, review and process pay applications, review of the project schedule, process RFI’s and produce weekly and monthly construction progress reports. 
  • Establish and maintain working relationships with owners, agencies, subcontractors, corporate management, inspectors, etc., providing customer service to develop long-term partnerships with client base. o Ensure Project management systems are maintained up-to-date and accurate. 
  • Manage the submittal and RFI process electronically. 
  • Work on multiple projects simultaneously. o Assist with review and analyze Contractor claims, prepare change orders, and manage claims and change order records.

Post Construction
Assist Project Manager: 

  • To ensure timely closeout including punch list and all closeout documentation. 
  • To schedule and monitors walk throughs with clients. 
  • To ensure completion and submission of all paperwork required for contractual closeout. 
  • Participate in post-mortem meeting, document all lessons learned.

Qualifications
Experience preferred in:

  • Aviation, healthcare and public sector industries 
  • Quality Control o OHSA-10 or OSHA-30 
  • Bachelor’s degree in construction management, engineering, or related field 
  • 5 years of experience in construction as superintendent, project manager, or similar position o Knowledge of scheduling software and project management software, specifically P6 and Procore 
  • Knowledge of Microsoft based software applications – Outlook, Excel, Word 
  • Possess good communication skills 
  • Strong organizational skills
